RHINOCEROSE - "Cubicle"

I can find absolutely no picture of this awesome band... click HERE to bask in the neo-Ramones glory that is... RHINOCEROSE!

Labels: ,

MUNK - "Kick Out The Chairs"

OK, this one I really really like...

Kick Out The Chairs

Reminds me of TONES ON TAIL. In a good way, not a derivative way. The song falls apart a bit at the end, which doesn't ruin it for me, but I'd like to edit my own version of it...

Labels: ,

HOT CHIP - "Over and Over"

This one is awesome... it messes with the whole "green screen" process and the making of videos. Very cool.

And, of course, HERE'S a better version for the truly adventurous.

Labels:

DEICHKIND featuring SARAH WALKER "Ich betäube mich"

I just don't know:

Much better version found HERE!

"Ich betäube mich" translates as "I benumb myself". I'm surprised Germans use so few letters in that sentence.

Labels:

MIDIbox SID Bassline Session c64

Every John Carpenter soundtrack ever made.

Man, that's pure.

Labels:

LASSE GJERTSEN - "Jeg går en Tur - A Self Portrait"

Not a music video, but still.

I like the sentiment.

Labels:

TIP TOP - "Tip Top"

Ah. This is what I see when I dream:

And HERE it is in a nicer version.

Labels: ,

ART BRUT - "Formed A Band"

It's what we all want to do, right?

And HERE'S your link to higher quality goodness.

Labels:

JAMIE LIDELL - "The City"

I like this guy's attitude... looks like a '70s punk. Who is shaving on the street. In front of a liquor store. With a Lady Bic©.

HERE'S the link to Lidell's website. To view a better version of this video, click on the link and then look for the guy shaving on the right side of the page.

Labels:

EMILY HAINES and the SOFT SKELETON - "Doctor Blind"

I find this one very fascinating... I had never heard of Emily Haines before this song, but I have since discovered she is in the band METRIC. More about them later. HERE'S the link to a big nice version of this video. Great song, great video.

Labels:

JUSTICE VS. SIMIAN - "Because We Are Your Friends"

I would kill the guys who set this up...

And no jury would convict me.

Labels:

THE HORRORS - "Sheena Is A Parasite"

AAAAAAAHHHHH!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

And HERE is a MUCH better version. Some day I'll learn how to embed these...

Labels:

GNARLY BARKLEY - "Crazy"

I have it on good word that the things he says in the song are pretty close to accurate, at least for one person I know who's "been there"...
A classic video, but every one of my sources has it taken down, or the embedding is disabled... guess the record company is protecting its assets.

HERE'S the best link I could find. Enjoy.

Labels:

COCOROSIE - "Noah's Ark"

I'm almost embarrassed to admit I like this one... silky melodies and incredible vocals/weirdass vocals - if you like that kind of stuff.

HERE'S a higher res version that always seems to lock up my computer unless I let it load for almost a minute. Proceed at your own risk.

Labels: ,

KILLS - "Good Ones"

I really liked this one... I've had nights like this in clubs back in the old days.

Unfortunately I cant find a cleaner version, as the old one was taken down. Grr.

Labels:

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM - "Tribulations"

I find myself enjoying this video on a complete AV nerd level... lots of basic camera tricks in this one make for a top-notch package.

Here it is in a much cleaner .mov format.

I'll be coming back to this band again.

INTERPOL - "EVIL"

This was also one of the first songs I discovered on the internet via a cool video. I really dislike puppets/mannequins/ventriloquist dummies, sales clerks etc., and this vid has an almost lifelike puppet as it's protagonist. The song is suitably haunting and weird as only INTERPOL can be:

Yeesh, my skin's crawling.

ROYSKOPP - "What Else Is There?"

This one is very compelling, and Scandinavians are weird as all get out:

Makes me want to float.

Here's a nice version in .ram format.

STEPHEN MALKMUS - "Baby C'mon"

This one is just plain cool. Very trippy photograph jumps, plus a damn monster!

Better quality version HERE.

Labels:

APHEX TWIN - "Rubber Johnny"

This one scared the shit out of me when I first found it, and it scares the shit out of me right now:

Better quality version found HERE.

Labels:

JASON FORREST - "War Photographer"

Here is perhaps the greatest animated music video ever made... JASON FORREST's "War Photographer":

Apparently this was created by a fan, and then adopted as the official video. It really adds entire levels of cool to the rather pedestrian song... it's kind of like how a metal-head teenager would imagine what the song is about while lying on his bed with his headphones on in the middle of the night, stoned to the gills. Not that I'd know anything about that.

And Vikings are always cool.

For a somewhat better version, here it is in .mov format.

THE ROBOCOP KRAUSE - "You Don't Have To Shout"

One of my all-time favorite videos, and one of the earliest that I found by just stumbling around on the web. THE ROBOCOP KRAUSE'S "You Don't Have To Shout" has that certain undefinable something that gets my feet tapping... one half TALKING HEADS, one half German exchange student, one half goofy visual puns, and a 1970's era Olympic gymnast... what's not to like? Oh, and HERE'S a link to a few other ROBOCOP KRAUSE songs. "In Fact You're Just Fiction" is especially enjoyable. There's not a whole lot of info on the web about them and my rather cursory search turned up no MySpace page. Anyway, who cares, just go listen.

Let's get this thing started

What is this site for? Well, I wanted to have a blog where I could go and dump all the cool music videos I've found in my web travels to keep them all in one easy-to-reference place, so here we are. I really like the combination of music and film... it's like coming at something from two creative angles. I was there for the birth of MTV, and I'm still hooked on the concept, even though I have to go to the internet to feed my hunger. Thank goodness for that, ain't? I also wanted to loosen up a bit and be able to post some weirder things, with perhaps a liberal dose (HA!) of politics, and write some stuff without making sure I'm keeping my language and subject matter all nicey-nicey, like I have to do at the work-related blog that I maintain daily. You won't see graphic photos of pigfucking, but I might use the word "pigfucker". You just never know.
